Village Anthromes

Village anthromes are where rural populations are densest, agriculture is most intensive, and landscapes include towns and even small cities.  This class includes six anthromes including Rice Villages, Irrigated Villages, Cropped & Pastoral Villages, Pastoral Villages, Rainfed Villages, and Rainfed Mosaic Villages.  Villages are both densely populated and intensively cropped, while also incorporating a mix of urban area, forest, and cultivated lands.  There is a strong tendency for food produced in these anthromes to be consumed locally.  In many cases the conventional ecoregions found within village anthromes overlap, and most of these are in Asia, where they are home to the large rural populations of China and India.
