Anthropogenic Biomes of the World
Populated Irrigated Cropland

The Populated Irrigated Cropland anthrome has a minor human
population and expansive agricultural lands. Variations in
climate require much of this anthrome to be irrigated in order to
support the agricultural use of this land. A mix of forest and
pasture take up the remainder of this anthrome though not with any
great area thus land use and land cover falls into a variety of
smaller categories.
Found all over the world the populated irrigated cropland anthrome
is not even specific to a broad conventional biome category as it
can be found in grasslands, forests, and deserts. This
illustrates how humans transform their environments to suit their
needs, in the case of this anthrome, more cropland was achieved by
extensive irrigation.

calculated after removing the top and bottom
2% of cells in each anthrome based on
the Euclidean distance across the means of variables used for anthrome classification. |
